In the 60s, Keong Saik used to be a red light district but steady conservation and renovation of its various shophouses (a prevalent building type in Singapore's architectural and built heritage) have paved the way for a very different neighbourhood.

I meet with Ben Gattie, the founder of the Working Capitol, a co-working space that sits on 1 Keong Saik Road in a former old biscuit factory.
We discuss how Keong Saik has changed over time and what it takes to build vibrant and distinctive neighbourhoods.
Ben has a wealth of experience in urban revitalisation and has championed the role of “neighbourhood builder” for many years in the precinct, forging harmonious synergies with the local community.
